Intermix Residency
Riyadh
The Saudi Ministry of Culture launched the Intermix Residency in 2022 to support emerging Saudi artists through cross-disciplinary programmes at JAX Diriyah, Riyadh. Studio Marant built the workshop and masterclass programme for the inaugural edition, guiding thirteen residents through their material and conceptual research.
At its centre: From Fibres to the Future, a workshop led by French designer Wendy Andreu. Working from the palm tree as both local resource and design material, residents pushed vegetal fibres : leaves, rope, raw fibre into three typologies: surfaces, volumes, connection systems. The programme closed with resident presentations that put palm fibre forward as a renewable, locally-rooted resource for contemporary design and art.
