MAMO – Comptemporary Art Center

In 2013, Emily Marant joined the team behind the transformation of the former gymnasium on the rooftop of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse into MAMO, Marseille’s new contemporary art centre. Working alongside designer Ora Ïto, she helped structure the project, set up its non-profit organisation, and coordinate its launch.

Located on the rooftop of Le Corbusier’s Unité d’Habitation, MAMO opened in June 2013 with Architectones, a site-specific exhibition by Xavier Veilhan. Produced with Arter, the exhibition was part of Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture, and established the centre’s model: using the architecture itself as a setting and partner for contemporary creation.

Emily went on to build projects around the programme’s audience, including a temporary Chez Moi, Paris concept store during Daniel Buren’s 2014 exhibition. MAMO has since presented artists including Daniel Buren, Dan Graham, and Felice Varini building a programme around contemporary art, architecture, and design.
