MAMO – Comptemporary Art Center

Designed by Le Corbusier between 1945 and 1952, the Cité Radieuse is a landmark of Modernist architecture, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, combining housing, shops, and an interior street within a single structure. On its rooftop, the MAMO a contemporary art center conceived by Ora-Ïto inside the building’s former gymnasium has hosted temporary exhibitions in the open air since 2013.

Emily Marant joined the team behind the transformation of the former gymnasium; working alongside designer Ora-Ïto, she helped structure the project, set up its non-profit organisation, and coordinate its launch. MAMO opened in June 2013 with Architectones, a site-specific exhibition by Xavier Veilhan. Emily Marant went on to build projects around the programme’s audience, including a temporary Chez Moi, Paris concept store during Daniel Buren’s 2014 exhibition. MAMO has since presented artists including Daniel Buren, Dan Graham, and Felice Varini building a programme around contemporary art, architecture, and design.
