French Cliché
Paris & New-York
In 2019, Emily Marant co-founded French Cliché with Hugo Matha: a nomadic collectible design platform pairing emerging artists with craftspeople, each rooted in a specific French savoir-faire.
Working closely with emerging artists and designers, French Cliché accompanies the translation of artistic practices into sculptural yet usable pieces, preserving the integrity of each artist’s language. Production is carried out in collaboration with specialised French artisans, whose expertise enables precise material experimentation and high-level execution.Victor Cadène with Maison Thévenon. Marion Mailaender with Atelier des Lys. Eva Taulois with Maison S.
All works are produced in limited editions and handmade in France. French Cliché positions collectible design within a gallery context, where objects are conceived as autonomous works while remaining anchored in use.
Since founding it, Emily Marant and Hugo Matha have worked with more than thirty artists, designers and craftspeople : across art fairs, design shows and independent spaces in Paris and New York: Paris Design Week, Art-O-Rama, The Invisible Collection, COLLECTIBLE Design, Sotheby’s, AD Intérieurs. French Cliché has carried French craft into these new spaces, in front of new audiences and buyers.
